Mr John Omoniyi, a chairmanship candidate in Saturday’s local government congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, has expressed confidence that he would emerge victorious.

Mr. Omoniyi, who is vying for the chairmanship of Ibadan South-West Local Government, told newsmen on Friday in Ibadan, that he is sure of victory. Mr. Omoniyi, an architect, is vying for the position alongside 12 other candidates.

According to NAN reports, the Local Government Congress of the APC has been scheduled to hold nationwide on Saturday.

“The election is going to be free, fair and credible. 13 of us are vying for that office and we have all decided to go for election. We all do not subscribe to consensus option.

“We, the 13 candidates, will all be at the congress venue and from all indications, I am positioned for victory,” he said.

He said that his antecedents as a committed party man was one of his unique selling points, saying he has unprecedented support from all party stakeholders.

According to him, “we have taken our campaigns to the nooks and crannies of the 12 wards in the local government. We have spoken to women on the streets.

“The youth of the local government are ready for a new dawn in the history of progressive politics in Ibadan South-West local government.

“I can tell you categorically that by the time I emerge and gets sworn in with others as local government executives of the party in the council, it shall be the beginning of a new dawn,” he said.

Omoniyi said that part of his manifesto was to ensure an all encompassing and broad based party politics.

He called on the opposition parties to brace up for the challenges ahead, promising they would give them a run for their money.

Omoniyi said that the array and calibre of political juggernauts they parade and those intending to defect from other parties, especially the PDP, would throw the PDP off balance.

“Ibadan South-West local government is APC dominated and my victory at tommorow’s party congress will further cement that hold,” he said.

He called on party members to come out in large numbers to participate in the congress, assuring that adequate security has been put in place to ensure safety of lives and properties.

Omoniyi said the local government congress committee sent from Abuja has assured them that their mandate to conduct the congress is sacrosanct.

He said that the committee has also assured that any action taken outside that mandate would be declared invalid, null and void. (NAN)
