Plateau mourns the death of their lawmaker, Maitala and his family

A sad moment has engulfed the city of Jos over the sudden death of one of their House of Representative member, Hon Haruna Maitala, who was involved in a ghastly accident along Jos-Abuja road yesterday evening.

Hon Maitala, was the member representing Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency in the House of Representative and the first lawmaker to have died in service.

He was among the first lawmaker to have been elected into the green chamber in 2019, under the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC).

A family source confirmed to NATIONAL ACCORD that the accident occurred at about 5:30pm.

“From what we were told by an eye withness, the 406 Peugeot (Wagon) conveying the deceased was trying to avoid a motorcycle that suddenly bursted into the highway”.

“Unfortunately for the driver of the vehicle, he could not control the situation and the vehicle skidded the highway and crashed into the bush”.

“People rushed to the scene of the accident to rescue the occupants of the vehicle, where they met the 4 occupants of the vehicle dead”.

“The four occupants include: The House of Rep member, his last son, his personal assistant and his driver. All of them were recovered dead from the vehicle after the crash” said the source.

NATIONAL ACCORD also gathered that the lawmaker was expected to be in Jos to participate in the wedding ceremony of his first son slated for Sunday 4th April.

Mourners were seen trooping to the residence of the deceased lawmaker in Dadinkowa Jos to condole with his family.

The bodies of the victims of the accident was been awaited in Jos and the burial was expected to hold immediately after 2, O’Clock prayer.

Meanwhile, The Plateau State Governor, Simon Bako Lalong has sent a message of condolence to the family of the late House of Representative member.

In a condolence message signed by Dr Simon Makut, director of Press and Publicity, Lalong described the death of Hon Maitala as a monumental loss to Plateau people and the country at large.

The governor prayed to God to give the family of late Maitala to heart to bear the huge lost.
