Push positive narratives about economic reforms, Reps tell media

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Tajudeen Abbas, Saturday night in Abuja urged the media to push the positive side of Federal Government’s economic reforms.

Abass said this through Rep. Akin Rotimi, Chairman House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, in his key notes address at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Freedom and Good Governance Award.

Abbas said though the economic reforms signposted by the removal of fuel subsidy has been painful to Nigerians, it nonetheless has brought some positives into the nation’s economy.

“Help promote, through your reports, the efforts of the Federal Government to achieve the nation’s economic and development transformations.”

“It is in our collective interest to accede to this request given the critical state of our economy,“ he said.

Abbas also urged the media to understand that their relevance lies in the service they offer to the society and their contributions to nation building.

He described the media as vehicles for socio-economic transformation being pursued by President Bola Tinubu led- administration.

The Speaker urged newsmen to reflect deeply on media and government relationships, adding that in so doing, they would help generate fresh perspectives on government-media relationship.

This, according to him, is to fast-track good governance and national development.(NAN)
