Crime suspect in police handcuff
By BARBARA KALU, Port-Harcourt –
Rivers State Police Command has apprehended 23-year-old Kingsley Chinamezu for the gruesome killing of his 44-year-old girlfriend, Miss Confidence Sunny, in Etche Local Government Area.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, announced the arrest in a statement released in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
She revealed that Chinamezu, alias Power Sharp, allegedly used a machete to fatally attack Sunny on July 30 in the Umuebule community.
“Following the horrific act, Chinamezu fled the state but continued to terrorize the victim’s family with threats, arrogantly claiming he was untouchable,” Iringe-Koko stated.
According to her, the victim’s family filed a formal complaint, prompting Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju to task the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) with the investigation.
“Using reliable intelligence, AKU operatives tracked the suspect to his hideout in Egbeta village, Edo State, and arrested him on August 15,” she added.
Iringe-Koko further disclosed that during questioning, Chinamezu “freely admitted to the crime, providing a detailed account of the events leading to the murder.”
She noted that the police are gathering additional evidence while investigating the suspect for potential links to other criminal activities.
Commending the AKU’s efficiency, CP Adepoju reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to justice and public safety.
“Rivers State will not be a safe haven for criminals. Those who commit such atrocious acts should know that the law will relentlessly pursue them,” Adepoju declared.
The investigation remains ongoing as the police prepare to bring Chinamezu to justice.
