Former Senate Minority Leader of the 10th Senate, Senator Simon Mwadkwon, has distributed economic empowerment items to 200 women across the six Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Plateau North Senatorial District.
The distribution was aimed at boosting the economic capacity of beneficiaries in the region.
The six LGAs include Bassa, Jos North, Jos South, Jos East, Barkin Ladi, and Riyom. The items, which consisted of grinding machines and sewing machines, were provided to carefully selected beneficiaries at a ceremony held over the weekend. These items are intended to enhance their income-generating abilities, promoting economic self-sufficiency.
Speaking during the event, Senator Mwadkwon reaffirmed his commitment to improving the welfare of citizens through sustainable empowerment initiatives. He emphasized that development should be people-centered, transcending ethnic, religious, and political divides.
“Our focus remains humanity. We will continue to empower people, lift them, and make them prosperous, irrespective of their background. We must remain united and resist agents of division,” he stated.
The Senator also commended Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his visionary leadership, particularly in areas such as transportation, agriculture, education, healthcare, and economic revitalization. He urged citizens to continue supporting the administration in building a united, secure, and prosperous Plateau.
He further encouraged the beneficiaries to make the best use of the items provided, stressing that their effective utilization would benefit both their personal growth and their communities at large.
Earlier, the Director-General of the Senator’s Campaign Directorate and two-term Member of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Dalyop Mancha, hailed the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention to reduce hardship and poverty in the region.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, Hon. Chris Hassan, praised Senator Mwadkwon for strengthening the party’s presence in the zone through such impactful empowerment programs.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of a Peugeot 406 car to one of Senator Mwadkwon’s loyal supporters, Mr. James Nyango, in recognition of his unwavering dedication.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Sarah Davou, expressed her gratitude, saying the empowerment items would enable her to become self-sufficient and even employ others in her community.
