Senegal have dismissed head coach Pape Thiaw following the team’s disappointing exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) announced the decision on Sunday after an executive committee meeting.
“Following a meeting of the (FSF) executive committee, it was decided to initiate proceedings to relieve national team coach Pape Thiaw, as well as the entire coaching staff, of their duties,” the federation said in a statement.
The FSF also confirmed that its president, Abdoulaye Fall, will address the media on Monday to explain the “reasons behind this decision” and “to discuss the future.”
Thiaw, a 45-year-old former Senegal international, had been in charge of the national team since 2024.
Senegal reached the World Cup round of 32 after defeats to France and Norway were followed by a convincing 5-0 victory over Iraq in the group stage.
However, the Lions of Teranga were eliminated by Belgium, losing 3-2 after extra time despite leading 2-0 until the 86th minute.
Although Thiaw guided Senegal to the Africa Cup of Nations title in January, the team was later stripped of the trophy after walking off the pitch during the chaotic final against Morocco.
