Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has issued a stern warning to the Federal Government, cautioning that the country risks sliding into crisis if what he described as the persecution of opposition figures continues.
The governor, who spoke in Bauchi while receiving an award as a Safety Ambassador from the Safety Institute of Nigeria, accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration of deploying state institutions against political opponents.
Mohammed said Nigeria’s political environment had taken a troubling turn, noting that he was shocked to learn he was being linked to terrorism allegations.
He also expressed concern over the continued detention of a member of his cabinet by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), describing the situation as disturbing.
The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory further revealed that despite enjoying constitutional immunity as a sitting governor, his name was still cited in a court motion.
Reflecting on the development, the governor said:
> “God is wonderful. I don’t have to say anything. I don’t even have to go to the public court, but certainly, politics has become something else in Nigeria.
> “The APC-led Federal Government thinks it can use the courts and institutions of government, like the EFCC, to persecute and prosecute Nigerians who are not in their party. If they don’t stop, we’re going to declare war,” he said.
Mohammed’s comments have added to growing political tension, as concerns continue to mount over the use of anti-graft and judicial institutions in partisan disputes.
