A former lawmaker, Sen. Ita Enang, on Friday in Abuja urged the Federal Government to embark on emergency importation of petrol to cushion the effects of the subsidy removal on citizens.
He said this at a seminar organised by the Rufus Ebegba Centre for Leadership and Environmental Sustainability a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO).
“What I call emergency importation option, is that the FG should get money from savings and money from other agencies under the Fiscal Responsibility Act to import refined petroleum products.
“We just have to have to think outside the box to return this country to production
“Let this economy work again; invest money in emergency petroleum importation,” Enang advised.
Dr Rufus Ebegba the Founder, Rufus Ebegba Centre for Leadership and Environmental Sustainability, appealed to the Federal Government to review some of its policies in order to make the country a better nation.
Ebegba said that the essence of the seminar is to advise the present administration on how to touch the lives of Nigerians in the area of security, infrastructure and health etc.
“The outcome of this meeting would be passed on to the government so see whether they can consider some of these proposals.
“Nigeria has a great potential that must be manifested into what we need.
“We just want to see how we can touch humanity and then come out with ideas that can facilitate good and ideal leadership,” Ebegba said.
He said the centre would come up with compendium of ideas that would help Nigerian youths become good leaders.
A speaker at the seminar, Dr Barry Avotu, said that a youth cannot be developed into a good leader without sound education.
“One of the reasons Nigerian youths roam around the streets is because they are unemployable; they are graduates of universities but unemployable even with the 2.1 Grade Point Average (GPA) they possess’’, he said.
Avotu said youths could be recruited into the security agencies so that they would contribute their quota towards tackling security challenges in the country.(NAN)
