Vice Chancellor of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), Professor Bashiru Garba, has emphasized that achieving meaningful development in. Nigeria without sustainable energy is impossible.
In his inaugural lecture, “Chemistry, Energy and Industrialization: The Tripod of Sustainable Development,” Prof. Bashiru stressed the critical role energy plays in driving industrialization and economic growth.
“The interplay between chemistry, energy, and industrialization is crucial for achieving sustainable development,” Prof. Bashiru said.
He highlighted the need for innovative and sustainable solutions that balance economic growth, social equity, and environmental protection.
Nigeria faces significant energy challenges, with over 2 billion people in developing countries lacking access to affordable modern energy services, which perpetuates poverty, ill-health, and deprivation.
Prof. Bashiru advised Nigeria to leverage regional energy resources and attract investors to generate and supply energy for each region.
He also urged the protection of critical infrastructures from vandals and saboteurs.
The inuagural lecture, chaired by the Pro Chancellor of the University, Prof Attahiru Jega also had in attendance members of the Ivory Towers Governing Board, captains of industries and agricultural experts as well as academic and non academic staff of the institution.
