Taraba ASUSS seeks urgent recruitment of teachers in public schools, begs for palliatives

The Academic Staff Union Of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) Taraba State Chapter has appealed for more teachers recruitment in the state, especially in the area of science and arts subjects.

The ASUSS Chairman Taraba State Chapter, Comrade. Prince Sule Abasu made the call while delivering his welcome speech during the World Teachers’ Day celebration held in Jalingo, Taraba State capital.

 

The theme for the 2023 World Teachers’ Day is: “The teacher we need for the education we want: The global imperative to reverse the teachers shortage”.

Abasu said teachers are in short supply in public schools across Taraba State and there is need for the Dr. Agbu Kefas led administration to redouble his efforts and employed more teachers in Sciences, Mathematics and Literature in English.

He stressed that the reintroduction of special allowances for science teachers and Languages will minimize brain drain. He also called for the provision of more watchmen and cleaners in public schools to enhance environmental cleanliness and to consider teachers in the state palliative pay roll.

In the same vein, the ASUSS State Secretary, Dr. Kazon Ishaku stated that teaching as a noble profession is a tool for human capital development, stressing that without teachers, the society will remain primitive.

Dr. Kazon warned against quacks parading themselves as qualified teachers while calling for adequate training for teachers in the state.
He reiterated that no school should employ a teacher on the basis of intelligence but on the professionalism, adding that “intelligent and method of impacting knowledge are far from each other”.
