Taraba Fire Service urges Gov. Kefas to recruit more personnel, provide equipment

As the dry season approaches, Taraba State Fire Service has urged the state Governor Agbu Kefas to recruit more personnel and provide fire fighting equipment to avoid destruction of lives and properties.

The Director of the Taraba State Fire Service, Engr. Sale Mijinyawa made this appeal when speaking with NATIONAL ACCORD on Tuesday in Jalingo, the state capital.

Mijinyawa said for over 32 years of the creation of Taraba State, the fire service has never conducted recruitment of staff to increase the manpower and provisions of fire fighting equipment, such as form chemical, vehicle, fire engines and modern fire fighting equipment.

He advised Governor Kefas led administration to purchase a commando hilux van to complement the poor level of fire fighting personnel and revitalize the local government fire service stations that collapse decades ago.

Mijinyawa frowned at the dilapidated state of the fire service headquarters in Jalingo, that is presently housing only 15 personnel that are all approaching retirement stage, with one functional fire fighting truck.

He said despite fire fighting has been a risking job that easily claim lives, government should provide motivational incentives to encourage hardwork and dedication among personnel.

Engr. Mijinyawa, who is serving as the Director of Fire Service for eight years disclosed that oxygen, heat and flame are burning materials that easily come together and generates fire.

He reiterated that, people should build their houses with exit roots because of fire outbreak, according to him escape door assists in saving life and also having the fire service station contact number for quick response.

The Director said the fire service has saved lives and properties that worth million of naira and rescue people in fire incident that may destroy the state.
