Teaching profession key to restore lost glory of Nigeria-Prof Ajiboye

By JOHN ONAH, Abuja-The Registrar of Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Prof. Josiah Ajiboye observed that, for Nigeria to get it right, it must take the issue of teaching profession seriously.

While lamenting that the profession was pigeon hole over the years, he however commended the Education Correspondents Association of Nigeria (ECAN) for making the of the Council’s work better by putting TRCN at the central map of Education sector.

Ajiboye who disclosed this at the Weekend at a One-day workshop for ECAN with the theme: “Professionalism of Teaching and Teacher Education in Nigeria noted that teaching profession is now at the centre of interaction in the country.

“If we need to get right as a country, issues of teachers should be given priority and taken seriously. The issue of teachers has been pigeon hole over the year in Nigeria, but thanked President Muhammed Buhari for changing the narrative.

Speaking at the workshop, the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Emmanuel Ogbeche, commended the ECAN for organizing the capacity workshop and the support given to ECAN by TRCN over the year.  

He lamented that education sector is in shamble and need a collective ideas to reshape the sector but however commended for the work of Prof Ajiboye at the council and called on President Buhari to review his tenure.

Earlier, the Chairman of ECAN, Chuks Ukwuatu thanked TRCN under the leadership of prof Ajiboye for his assistance so far to the association and for taking the Council to next level in the development of teaching profession.

The Chairman of NUJ, Abuja chaper, Emmanuel Ogbeche, the Publisher of NATIONAL ACCORD newspaper, Tom Chiahemen, Mr Okunola Abimbola of TRCN and Dr. Magaji Waziri also of TRCN were among those that presented papers at the occasion.
