Plateau State is notorious for violent attacks by bandits and armed militia
Plateau State Government has conducted a mass burial for 27 individuals killed in a recent assault on the Bindi community in Tahoss, Riyom Local Government Area (LGA).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that on July 15, 2025, armed assailants attacked the community, claiming 27 lives, destroying homes, ravaging farmlands, and looting food supplies and properties worth millions of naira.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who visited the affected area, pledged to ensure a dignified burial for the victims.
At the ceremony, Riyom LGA Chairman Sati Shuwa condemned the recurring attacks on rural communities.
He urged the Federal Government and security agencies to take decisive action to address the state’s security challenges.
“Today, we gather in profound sorrow, our hearts burdened with grief, to mourn our brothers and sisters of Bindi,” Shuwa said.
“We honor 27 precious lives lost to a brutal and senseless act of violence. As your chairman, I stand with you, sharing in this deep loss.”
Addressing the bereaved families, Shuwa offered condolences, saying, “No words can ease your pain, but know that your grief is felt by all of Riyom and Plateau State. The void left by these losses wounds us all.”
He encouraged the families to find comfort in faith.
Shuwa also praised President Bola Tinubu and Governor Mutfwang for their efforts to enhance security and protect lives and property in the state.
The mass burial was attended by government officials, traditional and religious leaders, and community members. (NAN)
