President Bola Tinubu has been urged to declare armed herders causing mayhem in the country as terrorist group.
The Chairman of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area in Enugu State, Dr. Eric Odo, made the plea at a two-day meeting organized by ActionAid Nigeria in Enugu .
He emphasized that such a declaration would enable security agencies to deal decisively with their criminal activities.
“We felt that it will be proper for us to be courageous enough to say that this is the time at which we can halt this menace and give our people peace, especially the farmers,” Odo said.
“If they do so, I will tell you that the problem of insecurity in this country will be half-solved.”
Security expert Uche Okanume also highlighted the severity of the insecurity, noting that many markets in parts of Enugu State have shut down due to the situation.
He urged the state government to intervene and council chairmen to work closely with Neighborhood Watch and Forest Guards to provide adequate security.
