The management of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has shut down the main library of the institution indefinitely.

According to the library’s Public Relations Unit of the University, this follows the report of an explosive sound that rocked the Special Education Wing of the Library.

The Registrar of the University of Calabar, Mr Gabriel Egbe, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Thursday in Calabar.

Mr. Egbe said the Vice Chancellor of UNICAL, Prof. Florence Obi has further directed all staff and students should keep off the building.

He said the decision is within immediate effect and has accordingly directed the University Librarian and the Chef Security Officer to jointly ensure urgent and total evacuation of staff, students and university properties in the building as well as enforce the sealing of the structure.

The registrar further noted that the Management of the University had earlier declared a state of emergency on the library
