UNICEF, World Food Programme (WFP) in collaboration with the Borno State Ministry of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning have organized a one day workshop on Resilience and Social Cohesion in North-East Nigeria with Shani LGA of Borno State and Bade LGA of Yobe State as Pilot Project Areas.
The project workshop which was held on Tuesday at Maiduguri conference hall is targeted at strengthening resilience and social cohesion across vulnerable groups and structures as well as systems of good governance.
The Borno State Commissioner of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Adamu Alhaji Lawan Fanjimba in his welcome address appreciated the donors and development partners for their humanitarian support while noting that the support will go a long way in helping to restore peace and strengthen the already fragile public services in most communities across the state.
He also thanked the German Government for providing the financial support to the World Food Programme (WFP) and United Nations Child Education Fund (UNICEF) who are willing to implement the multi sectoral interventions in LGA of Borno State which will no doubt help address the identified problems in the LGA.
Adamu assured that the State government which is being represented by the State Ministry of Fiance, Budget and Economic Planning is committed to the collaborative efforts and willing to see that the objectives of the laudable project are achieved.

He further implored UNICEF and WFP to continue to collaborate with the Department of Budget and Planning while appreciating all the partners, staff of the ministry, LGA leaders, community leaders and other stakeholders involved in the implementation of the project.
On his part, Dr Clement Adams, Officer in Charge, UNICEF Chief of Maiduguri Field Office said the overview of the project centers on the geographical course of the project which is Shani LGA in Borno state and Bade LGA in Yobe State, with an implementation period of three years from July 2022 to December 2024.
According to him, the expected outcomes of the project will enable children, adolescents, women and other vulnerable persons to have improved, inclusive and sustainable access to quality basic services and sustainable livelihood opportunities amongst others.
Also, Mr Bernard Owadi, WFP Head of Area Office Maiduguri, said the expected beneficiaries of the project are in two groups; namely – the direct beneficiaries totalling about 156,888 households and the indirect beneficiaries totalling 362,307 households, which target women, children and other vulnerable groups.
Bernard explained further that certain factors such as the choice of the donors, environmental, security, population, culture, fertile farmlands amongst others necessitate why Shani LGA in Borno state and Bade LGA in Yobe were chosen as a pilot project study.
He however noted the the projects may cost the donors and development partners the sum of N500 million for effective implementation.
