VC pledges to make Ave Maria University centre of academic excellence

The Vice-Chancellor of Ave Maria University, Piyanko Professor Ignatius Onimawu has assured members of the University community and its environs that he would reposition the institution to become a centre of academic excellence most especially in the areas of research, academic and morals.

Prof. Onmawu also sued for cooperation from members of the academic staff to enable him succeed in his new assignment.

The Vice-Chancellor stated this on Thursday when he held an inaugural meeting with members of the academic staff of the University held at the Senate Chambers.

He decried the falling standards of research in tertiary institutions in the country and challenged lectures of the university to take issues of publications seriously.

To this end, the VC set up a five member committee to coordinate research activities and promised to bring some experts could update them on current trends in carrying out academic researches.

Prof. Onmawu, who is the former Vice-Chancellor of Ambrose Ali University, expressed dissatisfaction with the current publicity given to the new university especially in the erection of bill boards. He however, assured that standard ones will soon be erected at strategic entrances leading into the campus particularly along Abuja -Karshi Express Road and Abuja -Keffi Express way to create more visibility and publicity for the young university

He stressed the need for due process to be followed in the running of any tertiary institution while promising to collaborate with members of the press for more publicity and assured that a Public Relations Officer (PRO) will soon be appointed to help lease with the university community and her members of the publics.

In their separate remarks, the Registrar of the university, Ukah Chinwendu, the Director of Academic Programmes, Christian Oriaku and Richard Abu of the Mass Communication Department both lauded the initiative brought by the new Vice Chancellor.

They pledged to put in their best to ensure that the policies of the Vice Chancellor and that of the founder of the university are achieved.
