Vice Chancellor urges Nigerians to read literary books to Increase knowledge

The Vice Chancellor of the Nasarawa State University Keffi, Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed has charged Nigerians to read literary books that could expand their knowledge on how society operates for a peaceful coexistence.

The Vice Chancellor gave the charge yesterday in Keffi while welcoming guests to the inaugural lecture which took place at the University’s auditorium.

Professor Mohammed, who described the inaugural lectures as key a function of the university’s tradition of encouraging and promotion academic excellence, also commended the presenter of the inaugural lecture, Professor Terhemba Shija for his uridite and scholarly presentation, which he said is capable of increasing knowledge of literature in Nigeria and Africa in general.

Professor Terhemba Shija, delivering his inaugural lecture, titled: Sanctity of the Truth, Plurality of Interpretations and the Dystopian Views of Life in the Modern African Novel”,

Delivering the inaugural lecture, Professor Shija, who spoke on the theme: “Sanctity of the Truth, Plurality of Interpretations and the Dystopian Views of Life in the Modern African Novel”, described literature as the only channel through which thruth can be expressed to describe human qualities in real and abstract terms.

The lecture which was the 26th in the series organised by the University was attended by people from all walks of life, including those from the political class, the academia as well as the judiciary.

In their separate good will messages, The Chief Juggle of the Federal Capital Territory,. Justice John Tsoho, extolled the intellectual capacity of Professor Shija, whom he described as a dependable and amiable brother and urged members of the political class to make use of Shija’s wealth of knowledge and intelligence.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Lokoja, Professor Olayemi Akinyemi, commended Shija for an incisive and excellent presentation and described Nasarawa State University as service provider where emerging leaders are baked.

He said himself and other staff of the University have been appointed Vice Chancellors, Registrars, bursers and Librerians in universities across the country and thanked Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed for giving the University the desired leadership.

Earlier, the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom who was represented by a Lecturer with the Bingham University, Dr Tivlumun Nyitse, described Shija as a true ambassador of Benue who is dependable and reliable, while promising to support him in his future endeavors.

Highlight of the event was the entertainment of guests by the Benue State performing troupe who trilled guests with variety of dances.
