Zulum commends FG ARC- P project in Borno

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has commended the initiative and Implementation of the federal government project, tagged: “(ARC-P) in Borno state and some parts of the country.

Governor Zulum said the ARC-P project implementation in the state is not only apt but crucial as it is coming at a time the state government has concluded arrangement for the recruitment and training of youths and women in various vocational skills acquisition scheme.

He stated this on Friday at the closing ceremony of the training of the 930 youths facilitators engaged by the federal government to return out of school children to classes and vocational training.

According to him, the social Investment project, which is insightful is in line with his 10 points agenda of transformation plans for the state, which is geared towards improving the livelihoods of the most vulnerable persons in the state with a view to encourage them be useful to themselves and others by being skillful .

Governor Zulum, who was represented by the Borno State Deputy Governor, Umar Kadafur emphasized on the need to train the youths to engage the children in different skills so as for them to sustain themselves considering the prevailing socio economic and political challenges

The governor urged the facilitators to replicate what they learnt and commit themselves diligently in mentoring the children.

The governor appreciated the National Coordinator of the project Hajiya Maryam Uwais, the state coordinator , Hajiya Inna Galadima and Prof. Hauwa Biu among others for ensuring that project is successfully implemented.

On her part, The Borno First Lady, Dr. Falmata Zulum, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo said the laudable project would definitely give the children the hope and knowledge that will avail them the opportunities to improve on their livelihoods.

The First Lady further thanked the state governor for his support to the children, women and youths in the state while describing him as a humble and caring father for all and sundry.

Earlier in her address, the National Coordinator, ARC-P, Hajiya Maryam Uwais said the project became a necessary as a result of the figures from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), which indicated that over 20 million people are vulnerable globally and about 1.8 billion vulnerable persons are found in Borno State.

According to her, the federal government is pleased to introduce the project in Borno as the state governor has proved that he wants the best for his people most especially in education , health and agriculture.

She charged the youths to be committed to their mentoring job as defaulters would be sanctioned by the monitoring team with no payment.

The State Coordinator of ARC-p, Borno State, Hon. Hajiya Inna Galadima in her welcome address said the 3 weeks training programmes for the facilitators was regimental as it cut across various fields including ICT.

She commended Governor Zulum for providing funds for the successful implementation of the project which has been carried out in 18 out of the 27 LGAs of the state.

Hajiya Galadima said various resource persons trained the 930 youth facilitators from 18 LGAs where each facilitators are expected to trained the children in various groups.

She said with the programme, about 4000 children are expected to be taken off the streets.
