Zulum inaugurates committee on recruitment of school teachers

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has inaugurated a high powered State Committee for the recruitment of primary and secondary school teachers in the state.

The committee which comprised of 23 members is being chaired by the outgoing State Commissioner of Education, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, and Hajiya Ashatu the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Education.

The governor, however, tasked the committee with the responsibility of creating policies and guidelines to ensure well-qualified teachers are employed within the state’s education system.

He reiterated that the importance of the committee’s work cannot be overstated, as teachers play a pivotal role in shaping the state’s future by imparting knowledge, skills, and values to younger generations.

According to him, the committee will also work diligently to develop effective policies and guidelines that will enhance the professionalism and effectiveness of teachers in the state, and ultimately contribute to the growth and development of the education sector in Borno State.

Gov. Zulum charged the committee to also ensure welfare and accommodation of the teachers are prioritized and all appointment letters of the new teachers should be handled by the committee.

He also directed the committee to recruit even those qualified teachers out the catchment areas of Borno north, Borno south and Borno central to bridge the gaps and meet up with the terms of reference of the committee towards enhancing standard and quality of education in the state.

Gov. Zulum, however, lamented on the low level of education in the state, where most pupils and students can not read or write their names which he emphasized his government can not tolerate, which informed the huge investment on educational facilities by his administration.

He urged the calibre of technocrats and educationists in the committee to also discharge their assignments with all fairness and transparency as anything short of these can not be condone and will be deemed against the mission and vision of his administration on education.

Responding, the chairman of the committee, Engr. Abba Lawn Wakilbe assured the governor that the members will effectively carry out their assignments diligently and prudently to meet up with the requirements of the state government.

He also thanked the governor for giving them the opportunity to serve the state in this direction while praying for successful second tenure of the governor.
