The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum on Thursday laid the foundation stone of 2,275 length township road and drainage system in Gwoza Local Government Area of the state.

The construction work is to be handled by Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (Newmap) which is being funded jointly by the Borno State Government and World Bank.

Governor Zulum, who was represented by his Deputy Governor, Hon. Umar Kadufur, said the laudable initiative was indeed a collaborative effort aimed at not only beautifying the town but also providing accessible road network with proper water channels to the people in order to avert flooding.

He added that it was evident that Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project is actually making the environment better in Borno State and Nigeria at large.

It has been addressing multi-dimensional issues of the menace of gully erosion in the south east as well as land degradation in the northern part of the country.

The governor, therefore, expressed optimism that the organization can handle the project perfectly within the shortest possible time.

He, further, stressed that since the inception of present administration, government have embarked on massive construction and rehabilitation of several projects spread across the state.

“This is in view of government desire and commitment to make life more meaningful to our citizen to fulfilment of their promises to the people by ensuring the execution of quantitative projects that will stand the test of time”, Zulum said.

He therefore commended the efforts of Newmap and the World Bank for partnering with the Borno State Government in this direction, pointing out that “This project, If completed, will impact positively on the needs of the people.”

He also said that Gwoza is one of the major town in Borno State which the state government intends to transform into a mega city through the provision and improvement of all relevant infrastructures that would ease the difficulties being encountered by the people of the area.

Zulum however expressed appreciation to the entire people of Gwoza LGA for the support they have been giving to his administration, while appreciating Newmap and equally the world Bank as well as other humanitarian actors for their huge and laudable interventions.

He further called on the organizations and all development partners to maintain and sustain the tempo in their efforts of providing critical infrastructures in all the nooks and crannies of the state.
