16 Days of Activism: Save the Children launch tree planting campaign in Maiduguri

As part of the 2023 celebration of the 16 Days of Activism., Save the Children has launched tree planting campaign on Thursday at Modusulumri area of Mashimami orchard and pure water plant along Biu road near Bakassi Housing Estate, Maiduguri.
Save the Children, Borno State Coordinator on Children Protection and Emergency, Mr. Ubangari Donald in his remark called on the residents of the Sulumri community and its environs to join the campaign against desert encroachment by planting tree to mark the 16 Days of Activism which is being observed locally, nationally and internationally due to its significance.
He urged the people to plant at least one or two trees in their domains and neighbourhoods to protect their homes, offices and environs , stressing that, tree planting is associated with lots of benefits as it improves environmental conducive atmosphere, controls, soil erosion, gullies, prevents soil degradation, serves as wind breaker, controls wind storm and rainfall breeze, improves health and serve as economic trees for gains, among others.
Donald further enjoined the community leaders to mobilize their subjects to carry out the exercise which is free and beneficial to and sundry while also pledging to continue to provide the community with more trees and seedlings for massive planting alongside other activities that will improve their livelihoods.
While launching the tree plating campaign to mark the 16 Days of Activism at Modu Sulumri area, the District Head of Maisandari, Alhaji Abba Bukar commended the efforts of Save the Children and assured the organization that his people will be intensively mobilized and encouraged to join the crusade against property destruction, soil erosion, degradation and deforestation by tree planting lots of trees within and around their houses, offices, business development and farmlands due to its importance.
He noted that with the existing climate change globally, tree planting activity is not only necessary but essential to everybody including the government, communities, individuals and organisations, etc due to the benefits and uses of tree plantations, forests and gardens around the world.
Alhaji Bukar added that there are a lot of benefits attached to tree planting any where in the world. As such, he promised to impressed on his colleagues and subordinates as well as other leaders in his community to support and encourage the tree planting activity at every nook and cranny of the district while appreciating Save the Children for launching the tree planting activity in Sulumri.
The representative of Lawan, the Village Head, Bulama Sulumri, Alhaji BaWakil Bulama also planted a tree on behalf of the community leader of Sulumri and appreciated the gesture while promising to mobilize others to plant trees in their domains and environment.
Highlights of the the event include planting of trees, photographs and presentation of souvenirs to dignitaries that attended the ceremony, among others.
