Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly (NSHA), Rt. Hon. Dr. Danladi Jatau, has announced his intention not to seek re-election for a fourth term in the State Assembly in 2027.
Hon Jatau, made this known during an exclusive interview with journalists at his residence in Lafia on Sunday.
The Speaker, expressed profound gratitude to the people of Kokona West constituency for their unwavering support, which has seen him elected to the House for three terms. “I want to use this opportunity to thank the people of Kokona West constituency for voting me into the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for the third time,” he stated.
The Speaker emphasized his belief in knowing when to exit the political stage. “It is always good for you to leave this stage when the ovation is still high. At least I have tried. I have displayed my own quality of leadership from that Kokona West constituency,” he remarked.
By 2027, Dr. Jatau will have served a full 12 years in the State Assembly. He first came into the House of Assembly in 2011 but could not return in 2015. He however returned in 2019 and is currently on his second consecutive term in the House thus making it a total of 12 years in the State legislature by 2027.
When asked about his future political aspirations, the Speaker indicated that he has not yet made a decision on pursuing another elective position. “I have not decided. I have to make consultations. When I contact my people, if they believe in me for another position anywhere at the higher level, fine.”
He added that he would graciously accept their decision even if it meant resting from politics. “Even if they say I should rest, I will tell them thank you. For they have tried for me. I appreciate the people of Kokona West. I appreciate God. I appreciate the people of Kokona West constituency. For believing in me,” Dr. Jatau concluded, reiterating his appreciation for his constituents and divine guidance.
