By THOMAS AKASE, Makurdi –
A major political development has occurred in Benue State as Mr. David Olofu, a former Commissioner for Finance and Budget under ex-Governor Samuel Ortom, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Olofu announced his resignation in a letter to the Edikwu Ward 2 Chairman, Apa Local Government Area, citing his right to freedom of association as enshrined in the Constitution.
In his resignation letter, Olofu stated, “I write to inform you of my decision to resign as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with effect from 30th June, 2025.
“This decision has become necessary as I move to exercise my right to freedom of association enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.

*A Former Key Figure*
Olofu, a seasoned politician and former chairman of the Forum of State Commissioners for Finance of Nigeria, has been a key figure in Benue State politics.
His resignation from PDP is seen as a significant blow to the party in the state.
As the leader of the new coalition party, African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Apa Local Government Area, Olofu’s next move is being closely watched by political analysts.
His decision to resign from PDP may have far-reaching implications for the party’s fortunes in the state.
