PATRICK ABANG Calabar –
Ahead of the February 26th byelection in the Akpabuyo State Constituency, the Chairman of Akpabuyo LGA of Cross River State, Emmanuel Bassey has raised an alarm over plans by the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to bring machineries to Akpabuyo to disrupt the polls.
Hon. Bassey made the disclosure at the council headquarters in Ikot Nakanda, when APC southern leaders led by Senator Florence Ita Giwa and members of the APC state executive paid a courtesy visit to the local government
He noted that he has summoned the traditional rulers in the LGA to brief them on the plans by the opposition to create problems during the House of Assembly byelection in Akpabuyo
The chairman urged the village heads and clan heads to be vigilant during the period of electioneering especially the byelection which is only about two weeks from now, while calling on them to report any suspected persons to the authority
Hon. Bassey enjoined the village heads to mobilize their subjects especially those who do not have voters card to take advantage of the current voters registration in the council.
He reminded them that their voter’s cards are very important as these was the only thing that will guarantee the future of their children by electing leaders of their choice who will give them good governance
On their part, the monarchs, who spoke differently appealed to the chairman to look into the issue of their stipends which they complained was too meager to do anything meaningful
“Sir, N7,500 being the salary of a village head is too small, we are appealing to you to help us and so something to improve on this”. They said.
