Aliyu Zubairu, the Technical Adviser of Gombe United Football Club,
Chief Coach of Gombe United Football Club, Bashir Saleh, on Wednesday decried what he felt was the poor officiating of their match with Plateau United which ended 1-1.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Match Day 14 fixture in the 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) was played at the Pantami stadium in Gombe.
The hosts had to come back from a goal down through Ibrahim Yahaya’s goal in the 61st minute to salvage a point from the match.
Saleh, while speaking with journalists after the match, he was not satisfied with the match’s officiating.
“There were about two or three penalty kicks we should have been awarded. But maybe it’s the problem of the referee.
“However, we will accept the result of this game in good faith.’’
He noted that while football offers different possibilities of a win, a draw or a loss, the match result was not expected. “We didn’t expect this result. We expected a win.
“That’s what we came here for but the game was a draw. So, Plateau United were lucky to have a draw.’’
Saleh stated further that the result was an anti-climax because the match was important.
”This is in view of the need to consolidate on our recent good form of securing an away victory.”
The coach, however, expressed optimism that his team would bounce back to snatch the maximum points when they visit Wikki Touriss FC in Bauchi on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the technical chief of Plateau United, Fidelis Ilechukwu, told NAN that the environment was not conducive for him to talk.
NAN reports that Akila Jidima scored for Plateau United in the 23rd minute of the game, while Yahaya equalised for Gombe United.(NAN)
