Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia
By TYAV SAM TYAV, Makurdi –
Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia has charged the new caretaker committee chairmen in the state to avoid the fraudulent path of their predecessors which led to their untimely sack from office.
Speaking on Saturday night during the three newly sworn-in caretaker committee chairmen of Gboko, Ukum and Katsina-ala LGAs, Governor Alia charged them to uphold the virtues of accountability and transparency in discharging their responsibilities.
The Governor revealed that their predecessors were disengaged because of their lack of commitment, dedication, responsibility, transparency and accountability.
” These are things you can never do, you must not have these elements, people’s lives are handed over to you in these local governments, you are supposed to protect them by not creating more crisis”, Governor Alia told the new caretaker committee chairmen, advising them to live as true leaders, working for the people and on the side of the people always.
The governors informed that their appointments were to re-inject vibrancy in the administration following the removal of the former caretaker committee chairmen by the Benue House of Assembly over allegations of financial mismanagement.
The governor expressed deep worry over the trouble the nation was passing through as a result of inflation which has caused food insecurity as well as other challenging moments with Benue inclusive such as trying to ensure that people go back to their farms and to ensure that IDPs were in safe hands until they return to their ancestral homes. He therefore appealed to the new chairmen to be the shining examples in making sure that government achieve its target.
According to the Governor, the third tier of government is a very critical component of his administration as it plays a major role in the provision of social services to the people and cautioned the new appointees against mismanagement of resources and admonished them to provide the needed change in their respective council areas.
He reiterated the resolve and commitment of his administration to ensure accountability and due process in governance and counseled the caretaker committee chairmen to be guided by principles of good governance, transparency and accountability at all times, expressing confidence in their ability to lead and serve with distinction.
Responding on behalf of the newly sworn-in caretaker committee chairmen, Justin Shaku of Katsina-ala Local Government Area, expressed appreciation to the governor for the opportunity to serve and pledged their full support and commitment to the Alia led administration.
He assured on behalf of his colleagues with a promise that massive development would be witnessed in their various LGAs to replicate the seven point agenda of Governor Alia led administration.
