By SADIQ ABUBAKAR, Maiduguri –
A delegation of Youth Peace Advocates from the Peace Ambassadors Centre for Humanitarian Aid and Empowerment (PACHE) paid a courtesy visit to the Borno State Ministry of Information and Internal Security on Wednesday at the Musa Usman Secretariat in Maiduguri.
The team, led by Ambassador Ahmed Shehu, President and Founder of PACHE, was received by Professor Usman Tar, Commissioner for Information and Internal Security.
The objectives of the visit were to present the Scorecard of the Youth Peace Advocates to the Ministry for review and guidance after six months of induction and to explore further areas of partnership.
PACHE, in partnership with the British Council, has trained and inducted 100 young people as Youth Peace Advocates on peacebuilding, conflict resolution, mental health, and psychosocial support, as well as climate mitigation.
The advocates presented a detailed account of their community activities, successes, and challenges. They highlighted their participation in the launching of the Borno State Climate Action Plan and Commemoration of World Climate Day 2024, where they engaged in conferences and tree-planting initiatives.
They also discussed their engagement with low-risk repentant insurgents at the Maiduguri Social Orientation Camp and their research on the aftermath of the #End Bad Governance Protest# in Borno State.
Ambassador Shehu requested partnership and allocation of a one-hour slot for PACHE and the youth advocates to conduct youth-focused media engagement at Dandal Kura Radio Maiduguri, which the Commissioner approved.
Professor Tar reaffirmed his commitment to partnering with genuine individuals and organizations to build peace in the state.
He expressed gratitude to PACHE and the youth advocates for their efforts in community engagements, peacebuilding, and advocacies that lead to reforms and impacts.
The Commissioner granted immediate approval for a radio program to commence in Dandal Kura and requested PACHE and the youth advocates to compile and submit a detailed report of their activities, impacts, and scorecards, which he intends to present to the Executive Governor of Borno State, Prof Babagana Zulum.
He encouraged the youths for their sacrifices and service to their fatherland and requested them to submit their requests to the Ministry for further support and assistance.
