The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has announced plans to introduce e-mobility for commercial purposes in all six states of the North East zone. This initiative aims to reduce hardships and costs associated with commercial vehicles across the country.
NATIONAL ACCORD reports that the project, which has been approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will commence soon after final deliberations with a Joint State Committee from each state.
The e-mobility project will provide tricycles, taxis, and buses for intra and inter-state services, reducing reliance on gas and petrol. The project will be implemented in phases, based on individual state needs, and will include training and maintenance schedules for staff, road unions, and beneficiaries. The e-mobility vehicles will be provided on loan, with flexible terms and conditions determined by the Joint Committee.
During a stakeholders’ meeting, NEDC Managing Director/CEO Alhaji Goni Mohammed Alkali solicited support and cooperation from union leaders and members to ensure the project’s success. The project is expected to influence rapid development in the region.
In a separate development, Alhaji Mohammed Alkali directed the management of Al Ansar University to forward their demands to the commission for consideration. The university sought support and assistance from the commission, including educational facilities, mobility provision, solar energy systems, ICT facilities, and research funds. The NEDC has assisted and supported many tertiary institutions in the region as part of its mandate to promote and develop the educational sector.
Additionally, the NEDC requested a proposal from Al Ansar FM 96.1 Radio Station for a retainer shop on some radio programs, especially in local languages, to reach a wider audience.
On his part, the General Manager of Al Ansar FM 96.1 Radio Station, Malam Usman Mohammed, solicited the commission’s retainership to run jingles, special radio programs, and information and educational radio programs in the overall interest of the people of the North East region.
