The Borno State Government is committed to supporting youths as harbingers of peace, security and development in the State.
This is confirmed by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar, during a courtesy visit of a delegation from XPeace Associates, a prominent local non-governmental organization, at the Musa Usman Secretariat Complex in Maiduguri on Wednesday 30th October 2024.
The visit, led by the Project Officer, Fatima Muhammad Mafi, aimed to cultivate a collaborative alliance with the Ministry to champion youth-centered peace and security initiatives within the region.
The delegation presented a comprehensive agenda, prioritizing the advancement of the Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS) Agenda, an initiative aligned with United Nations Security Council Resolution 250. In tandem, X Associates Peace outlined its plans to conduct an extensive study assessing public awareness of youth peace and security policies.
The organization also underscored its dedication to tailoring peace and security strategies to address the unique social and cultural landscape of Borno State.
Responding to these aspirations, Prof Tar emphasized Gov Zulum’s steadfast support to Peacebuilding in Borno State, and assured XPeace delegates that through the laudable programmes of the government, the youth will be targeted not only as stakeholders but also promoters of peace, security and development in Borno.
He commended the NGO’s dynamic composition and progressive vision, emphasizing the Ministry’s openness to collaborative efforts that align with state objectives for sustained peace and security.
Professor Tar requested the submission of a formal proposal from XPeace, underscoring the Ministry’s commitment to nurturing partnerships that serve the youth and broader Borno community.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including the Permanent Secretary, Modu Alhaji Mustapha and the Director of Administration and Supply, Babagana Mustapha, reflecting the Ministry’s collective commitment to advancing youth-driven peace and security initiatives across the state.
