The University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan said it has been grappling with power supply challenges since October 26, 2024, following disconnection by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) over unpaid bills.
A statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of UHC, Funmi Adetuyibi, said the outstanding bill stands at N392 million, with N2.9 billion already paid out of a total of N3.1 billion.
Mrs. Adetuyibi said despite the challenges, the hospital management has taken measures to mitigate the effects of the power outage, including the provision of backup generators for critical areas such as emergency departments and operating theatres.
She said solar/inverter panels have also been installed in key areas, while mini solar bulbs have been distributed to illuminate critical wards.
According to her, the hospital has developed emergency response plans to ensure seamless patient care and assures the public that: emergency services remain operational; critical areas receive power supply; patient care and treatment continue uninterrupted and eforts are underway to provide alternative energy sources
“Once again, the Management sincerely expresses deep concerns for the inconveniences being experienced during this power outage. Though, there may be delay in service delivery, concerted effort is made to speedily resolve the problem.
“We want to assure the general public that the UCH is committed to serving them adequately and effectively”, she said.
