The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Taraba State has observed the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims by raising awareness for road safety and regularly initiating safety measures.
NATIONAL ACCORD reports that the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims (WDoR) is a somber United Nations observance held annually on the third Sunday of November. This day honors the millions of lives lost or forever changed by traffic crashes, providing a global moment of solidarity for grieving families, friends, and loved ones.
It also serves as a catalyst for advocacy, championing safer roads and the rights of road traffic victims worldwide. Additionally, it offers an opportunity to express gratitude to emergency services and first responders who selflessly assist crash victims.
The Sector Commander, Abdulmaliq Bello, in his address, noted that many road crashes occur due to motorists’ failure to address needed car repairs and replacements, such as expired tires and broken systems.
To address this, the FRSC distributed safety flyers, visited motor parks, worship centers and hospitals across Jalingo metropolis.
Commander Bello, who spoke through the Sector Chief Rout Commander, Jerad Simeon Bakwasam emphasized that drawing drivers’ attention to over speeding can help prevent road crashes, injuries and loss of lives.
He frowned at the attitude of the public for videoing and snapping the pictures of road crash victims and sending to social media instead of providing safety measures to rescue their lives.
He reiterated that such act can increase the trauma and cause more harm to the affected family members of the victims.
He urged the general public to always make use of the command emergency toll free number (122) incase of emergency, while assuring of immediate response to rescue the crash victims.
