The Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development, in collaboration with various stakeholders, organized a one-day workshop to commemorate World Human Rights Day and raise awareness about gender-based violence.
The event, held at the Women Development Center in Maiduguri, brought together participants from diverse backgrounds, including the Boys Brigade, CAN Wing, youths, NSCDC, CJTF, and MSS Youths.
Executive Director of the Allamin Foundation, Hajiya Hamsatu Allamin, expressed her appreciation to the participants and explained the purpose of the workshop. “We aim to create awareness campaigns against human rights violations and gender-based violence, which have severely impacted women and girls in our society.”
Project Manager of the Allamin Foundation, Shettima Mustapha,emphasized the significance of the workshop, which coincided with the International Human Rights Declaration of 1948 and the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
He highlighted the foundation’s efforts to support, empower, rehabilitate, train, and deradicalize women and girls affected by Boko Haram insurgency and related violence.
Renowned Islamic scholar Sheikh Mustapha Aliyu Ibrahim emphasized the importance of peace, unity, and development during a recent event. He stressed that God Almighty condemns human rights abuses, sexual violence, and other forms of injustice, and that severe punishment awaits those who commit such atrocities.
Sheikh Ibrahim also denounced drug abuse, alcoholism, adultery, and fornication, urging the audience to shun gossiping, blackmail, jealousy, and violence. He attributed the root causes of these societal ills to ignorance, illiteracy, selfishness, and bias.
Comrade Zanna Shettima, a Social Mobilization Consultant, echoed Sheikh Ibrahim’s sentiments, highlighting the devastating impact of human rights abuses and sexual violence on women and girls. He urged the audience to be patient, resilient, and distant from such atrocities.
Apostle Joshua Michael, CAN Secretary in Borno State, spoke on the themes of offense, forgiveness, reconciliation, and reintegration. He commended the foundation for its efforts in promoting human rights, gender equality, and inclusiveness.
Comrade Lucy Dlama, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Zulum on Women Affairs, emphasized the consequences of gender-based violence and reiterated the importance of human rights, women’s rights, and girl’s rights.
