On Sunday, January 26, 2025, management team of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) conducted a thorough inspection of various medical, dental, housing, and construction projects across Maiduguri town.
The inspection initiative was aimed at assessing the current progress of projects aimed at improving the living conditions and healthcare services in the state, which has been significantly affected by years of conflict.
The Managing Director/CEO, Ambassador Mohammed Goni Alkali led the Executive Directors and other top of management staff of the NEDC and visited several key sites, including newly built and upgraded DSS offices and houses, healthcare facilities and dental clinics as well as water ways dredging equipments purchased by the commission that are being to serve the local populace.
During the inspections, the team emphasized the importance of timely completion of these projects to enhance access to essential healthcare services and others.
While addressing the media, the Managing Director said, “Our commitment is to improve the quality of life for the people of Maiduguri.
“We recognize the challenges faced due to inadequate healthcare facilities, and we are determined to provide the necessary support to bring these projects to fruition.”
“In addition to healthcare facilities, the inspection also focused on housing and office accommodation projects aimed at resettling DSS staff and their families displaced by conflict and flood disaster.
The team was pleased to report significant progress in construction, with several buildings nearing completion and ready to accommodate those in need.
Alkali added that the inspectors concluded with the NEDC management team urging contractors and stakeholders to adhere to timelines and quality standards to ensure the projects are delivered effectively.
He also said that the ongoing initiatives reflect NEDC’s broader mission to rebuild and revitalize the North East region, fostering resilience and development for the affected communities.
Alkali noted also that as Maiduguri continues to recover from past challenges, the commission’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and essential services remains a beacon of hope for people of Borno.
The NEDC Managing Director reassured the public that they would continue to monitor all projects closely and provide updates on further developments in the coming months including others states of North East as part of the commission’s mandate.
