The Centre for Youth Participation, Dialogue, and Advocacy Africa (CYPA Africa) has reaffirmed its commitment to youth empowerment, governance, and policy advocacy with the launch of its 2024 Impact Report, Driving Change, Shaping the Future.
Speaking at the unveiling in Jos, Plateau State, the Executive Ambassador of CYPA Africa, Amb. Chris Iyama, said the report highlights the organization’s efforts in equipping young people with skills and platforms to influence policies and drive meaningful change.
“This is more than a report—it is proof of the resilience, innovation, and impact young people are making across Nigeria and beyond. When given the right opportunities, young people do not just participate; they lead,” he stated.
He highlighted CYPA Africa’s achievements in governance and policy advocacy, particularly through the Youth Governance and Policy Dialogue, which has transformed young people from passive observers into active contributors. “Through mentorship and strategic engagement, we ensure that their voices are not only heard but also shape policies that impact their future,” he added.
He also noted that CYPA Africa’s research efforts have influenced discussions at both state and national levels. “Our policy recommendations are already under consideration by various State Houses of Assembly, reinforcing the importance of data-driven advocacy,” Iyama said.
Acknowledging the media’s role in amplifying these efforts, he remarked, “Your support has been instrumental in ensuring that policy dialogues, research findings, and pressing national issues reach the right stakeholders.”
A board member, Laz Apir, reflected on Nigeria’s recent local government elections, describing them as a step toward grassroots democracy. “For years, local government elections were irregular, but 2024 marked a return to structured, democratic processes. We monitored elections across all 17 local government areas and documented key observations to enhance future polls,” he noted.
Dr. Sumayya Hamza, another board member, described the impact report as both a record of success and a tool for learning. “This report is not just about what we have achieved but also about lessons that will refine our strategies moving forward,” she stated.
Similarly, Toyin Phyllis Wiggins underscored research as a driving force behind governance and policy influence. “Findings from our research are already shaping discussions at both state and national levels. We remain committed to ensuring that young voices actively contribute to policy development,” she explained.
Program Director Godson Nwankwo reiterated CYPA Africa’s vision for the future. “Looking back at 2024, we are proud of the progress made, but 2025 presents an even greater opportunity to expand our impact. We invite everyone to join us in shaping a better future for Africa’s youth,” he remarked.
With its 2024 Impact Report highlighting tangible progress, CYPA Africa continues to position young people at the center of governance and policy advocacy, ensuring their voices drive meaningful change across the continent.
