The acting Rector, Benue State Polytechnic Ugbokolo Engr. Dr. Emmanuel Barki has assured of the preparedness of the management of the institution to reposition it for better and unparalleled results.
Speaking exclusively with NATIONAL ACCORD in Makurdi, the Acting Rector assured that the management was determined to reposition both academics and Infrastructure to enable it compete favourably with any polytechnic.
As part of efforts to reposition the institution, Dr Barki informed that the school has already introduced e- result, explaining that the online result would block all leakages as he noted that money meant for the school would be channeled to the school’s account and no one would be able to forge their result.
According to Dr Barki, efforts were being made to come up with e- certificate, adding the management of the institution has started the procedure with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) consultant.
Barki, who appreciated the Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia for providing the enabling environment for the management of the polytechnic to work assured that with the firm support of the governor, the management of the school would not fail in their responsibility.
The acting rector, who lamented that there was inadequate manpower at the polytechnic both for academic and non academic staff also appealed to the state government to look into the matter with the view of improving on the number of staff of the school for optimal performance.
Barki appealed to the staff of the polytechnic to be their brothers keeper and urged them to live in unity irrespective of where one comes from, saying unity would make the school grow from strength to strength even as he also called for advice that would move the school forward.
The acting rector also spoke about his ordeal in the hands of kidnappers some weeks ago noting that it is not a place for one’s worst enemy considering the beating, trekking, hunger and sleeping under the rain and always being threatened with sophisticated weapons.
He revealed that “the gunmen caught us when we attended an official assignment in Makurdi and we were going back to school. They caught six of us at about 6pm after Taraku and we trekked in the bush from that time to about 2 am before we arrived where they were going with us. We were in the bush and we didn’t know where we were even going.
“I give thanks to God for saving my life. l have not seen the biblical hell but what I saw during my one week with kidnappers is what I can refer to as hell.”
