Bauchi State Police Command has successfully dismantled an illicit fertiliser production plant and arrested five suspects in connection with the operation.
The suspects were found to be producing and selling adulterated fertiliser, posing a significant threat to the agricultural sector.
According to the Police Commissioner, Sani Omolori Aliyu, the operation was carried out by operatives of the Command’s Monitoring Unit, who acted on intelligence received from a reliable source. The suspects, identified as Muhammad Abubakar, Abubakar Umar, Anas Abubakar, Abdulrahaman Muhammad, and Ziya’u Bala, were arrested and various production machines and adulterated fertiliser were recovered.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to producing and selling adulterated fertiliser, with some revealing that they had been sourcing raw materials from other suspects. The police operation led to the discovery of three illicit production facilities, which were subsequently dismantled.
The Commissioner of Police assured the public that the Command is committed to ensuring that justice is served and that the law will be applied rigorously against anyone found guilty of participating in these unlawful activities. “We will ensure that justice is served and the law will be applied rigorously against anyone found guilty of participating in these unlawful activities,” he said.
The police recovered various items, including 44 bags and heaps of adulterated fertiliser, 100 bags of moulded kaolin, 12 bags of fertiliser, and one bag of urea fertiliser, among others. The investigation is ongoing, and the suspects will face charges in court once the investigation is completed.
The Bauchi State Police Command’s swift action has sent a strong message to those involved in such illicit activities, and the public can rest assured that the Command is working tirelessly to protect the agricultural sector and ensure that those who engage in such activities are brought to justice.
