The newly commissioned vehicles
By UKA NWAFOR, Abakaliki –
Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has commissioned an ultra-modern transport system known as EBOCAB in Abakaliki to curb the apparent transport difficulty experienced by people in the state.
The commissioning was one of the occasions that unfolded the Children’s Day celebration in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state capital yesterday.
NATIONAL ACCORD reports that the transportation system was designed by Ebonyi State Government to cushion the effects of high cost of transportation in the capital city and also create job opportunities, especially for the teeming unemployed youth.
The newly purchased vehicles numbering hundred and above are to convey passengers, men and women, from Margret Umahi International Market Abakaliki to their various destinations.

The commissioning was part of the event marking Democracy Day and 2nd anniversary of the governor. The gesture has been described by people as kind and unprecedented; and an indication that he is committed to facelifting the people from the ditch of under development to an advanced way of life driven by modern technology.
The governor used the opportunity to assure the people of a continued benefit of the dividends of democracy as enshrined in his People’s Charter of Needs mantra.
The people expressed their happiness to the Governor and commended him to have been able to bring the project as planned to this fruition end, especially as it would cater, considerably, for the unemployment in the state.

“Yesterday, we unveiled our new transport system initiative – EBOCAB. This digitally driven system is here to improve our mode of transportation, create jobs, grow our economy, enhance the security of our people, and our overall wellbeing.
I am exceedingly fulfilled and happy about this development. This service will bring comfort and security to our people commuting within and outside Ebonyi State. It will serve our airport, international market, and indeed, all corners of our State.
I congratulate the management and charge them to be firm, focused and tap into the creativity and huge potential of this system to improve the lives of Ebonyi people and grow our economy. It is and has always been all about meeting the needs of Ebonyi people. Our government will continue to key into programs geared towards attaining our goals as contained in the People’s Charter of Needs.” The governor stated.
However, NATIONAL ACCORD gathered that the people are sceptical about the plans to run a digital transport system by the state government in terms of cost which might not be affordable to the masses. Some maintained that for the aim to be achieved there must be a reduction in the price so as to accommodate civil servants, market women and other middle/low class income earners in the state.
That anything short of that it could just be assumed that government built a transport system to serve only the affluent politicians and few others.
