Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Abubakar Kyari, has said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Eight-Points Agenda has made significant progress in ensuring food availability, accessibility, and affordability across Nigeria.
Speaking in Maiduguri on Monday, Kyari noted that the ministry has achieved 80% of its agricultural targets, with ongoing initiatives to enhance food production and value chain sales for over 42 million Nigerian farmers.
“We intend to revolutionize the agricultural sector of the country to stabilize food production and price of food in the market,” Kyari said.
“We will also stabilize cost of production with reasonable high gain and low production cost towards promoting the policy of producing for the people food available, affordable and accessible.”
Kyari highlighted the impact of free grain distribution and subsidized rice distribution, particularly during flood disasters, alongside the distribution of over 110 million metric tons of fertilizer to boost farm cultivation.
The minister also emphasized plans to procure over 200,000 specially designed tractors with digitalized programming and monitoring systems to ease manual farming and increase productivity.
“We are looking at how and why the land is shrinking and we are working to see how we can make the projected figures between the farmers, Nigerian population and food production indexes to realm with the growing population of Nigerians,” Kyari added.
