
Manchester City secured top spot in Group G of the FIFA Club World Cup with a resounding 5-2 victory over Juventus, exposing the Italian side’s defensive vulnerabilities.
The win marked City’s third consecutive victory in the group stage, finishing with a total of 13 goals scored.
City took an early lead through Jeremy Doku, who capitalized on a superb through pass from new signing Rayan Ait-Nouri.
However, Juventus quickly responded, capitalizing on a mistake by City goalkeeper Ederson, which allowed Teun Koopmeiners to score the equalizer.
The team’s fortunes shifted when Matheus Nunes delivered a low cross into the box, and Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu inadvertently deflected the ball into his own net, giving City a 2-1 lead.
Erling Haaland further solidified City’s position with a third goal, assisted by Nunes, before Phil Foden sealed the win with a fourth goal, poking in Savinho’s tap-in from Haaland’s cross.
Savinho added a fifth goal with a stunning shot that crashed off the crossbar, while Dusan Vlahovic scored a late consolation goal for Juventus. The win positions City favorably, as they’ll face the runner-up of Group H in the last 16, potentially avoiding an all-Premier League matchup in the finals
