Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) is set to resume train services on the Kano-Minna route before the end of 2025, according to the Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa.
The decision is aimed at boosting economic activities in the area.
During an official visit to the Northern District Office in Zaria, Opeifa said that the NRC would also fix equipment within the Northern Regional District to achieve its set target.

“Most of the equipment within the district will be reactivated and put to use before the end of the year,” he assured.
The NRC is planning to partner with Niger, Kano, and Kaduna State Governments to ensure shuttles on the Minna-Kaduna route and Kaduna-Kano route.
Opeifa noted that rail services are now under the concurrent list, and the NRC will vigorously pursue its railing policy to restore services on some routes across the country.
The NRC will also collaborate with the Kaduna State Government to revitalize the railway hospital in Zaria and support the Police and NSCDC to reduce vandalism of railway properties.
According to Opeifa, the hospital serves not only railway staff but also the people of Zaria and Sabon Gari Local Government Areas.
The Regional District Manager, North, Mr. Adewale Rasheed, expressed concerns about the district’s idle staff and called for the reactivation of routes within the district.
The Chairman of the National Union of Railway Workers (NUR), Zaria branch, Mr. Aminu Abdullahi, also raised issues about unpaid promotion arrears and stagnation in the system.
