Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal
Zamfara State Government has dismissed the activities of a parallel assembly in the state, describing them as illegal and a violation of a court order.
The Special Adviser to Governor Dauda Lawal on Political Matters, Iliyasu Maijega, stated this while addressing newsmen in Gusau.
*Only One Legislature*
Maijega emphasized that the state has only one legitimate legislature, led by Speaker Bilyaminu Moriki.
He described the recent accusations made by the parallel assembly against the Lawal administration as baseless and null and void.
The parallel assembly, formed by suspended members of the house, had accused the Lawal administration of poor performance in the security sector and high costs of contracts for infrastructural projects.
However, Maijega noted that any action taken by the parallel assembly is illegal, given that the issue of the state assembly crisis is before the court.
Maijega urged the public to ignore reports of any parallel assembly sitting in the state, stating that any resolution made by the parallel assembly is not lawful.
He reiterated that the state legislature under the leadership of Speaker Bilyaminu Moriki remains the only legitimate state house of assembly authorized to carry out legislative duties in the state.
Maijega called on the people of the state to continue supporting Governor Lawal’s administration to move the state forward. He emphasized that any lawmaker claiming to be a member of the parallel assembly of is working against the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
