Super Falcons of Nigeria
Nigeria’s Super Falcons secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Botswana’s Mares in their second group match at the 2024 WAFCON in Morocco.
The match, played at Stade Larbi Zaouli, saw the Southern Africans put up a spirited challenge against the nine-time champions.
Tough Encounter
The game was a closely contested affair, with Botswana signalling early intent through Refilwe Tholakele’s fierce strike that forced Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie into a quick double save.
The Mares’ defence, marshalled by goalkeeper Sedilame Bosija, frustrated Nigeria’s attacking efforts, making it difficult for the Super Falcons to find rhythm.
Decisive Goal
The breakthrough came in the 89th minute when substitute Chinwendu Ihezuo scored the decisive goal, set up by Okoronkwo’s clever pass. Ihezuo’s goal sealed the win for the Super Falcons, who will next face Algeria on Sunday evening in their final group B fixture.
Next Challenge
The Super Falcons will look to build on their momentum against Algeria, while Botswana will aim to bounce back from their narrow defeat.
The match promises to be an exciting encounter, with both teams vying for a spot in the next round of the tournament.
