In a commanding performance, Sudan overwhelmed Nigeria with a 4-0 victory in their African Nations Championship (CHAN) Group D match on Tuesday at Jamhuri Stadium in Morogoro, Tanzania.
The game, which began at 6:00 p.m. Nigerian time, showcased Sudan’s relentless control from start to finish.
The scoring opened in the 25th minute when an own goal by Nigeria’s Leonard Ngenge gave Sudan a 1-0 lead.
Just before halftime, Walieldin Khidir converted a penalty in the 44th minute, doubling Sudan’s advantage to 2-0.
Abdelrazig Omer Yagoub further solidified their dominance with a goal in the 68th minute, followed by another just three minutes later, sealing the 4-0 triumph.
Despite Nigeria’s efforts to regroup in the second half, they couldn’t penetrate Sudan’s robust defense.
Sudan’s clinical finishing and cohesive play consistently exposed vulnerabilities in Nigeria’s backline, creating numerous scoring opportunities.
“Sudan’s attacking prowess was simply unstoppable,” noted a match observer, highlighting their strategic superiority.
This decisive victory propels Sudan to the top of Group D with four points, ahead of Senegal, who also have four points but fewer goals scored.
Congo sits third with two points, while Nigeria, after a prior 1-0 loss to Senegal, languishes at the bottom. Nigeria now faces a critical match against Congo on August 19 in Tanzania to keep their qualification hopes alive.
Meanwhile, Sudan gears up for their next challenge, aiming to maintain their impressive form in the tournament.
