People’s Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State have thrown their weight behind Governor Caleb Mutfwang and his Deputy, Josephine Piyo, urging them to seek re-election in 2027.
The endorsement came during an expanded stakeholders’ meeting held over the weekend at TM Resorts in Riyom, which drew a large crowd of party faithful, local leaders, and government officials.
Addressing the gathering, the Executive Chairman of Riyom Local Government, Hon. Sati Shuwa, said the decision was a genuine reflection of the people’s will, citing the administration’s strides in governance and commitment to inclusive leadership.
“This is not a decision influenced by anyone. It came from the hearts of the people, based on what they have seen both in Plateau and in Riyom.
They’ve taken a bold stand to support the governor and his deputy for a second term, and we are proud of that,” Shuwa stated.
He described the endorsement as a morale booster for party leaders and emphasized the need for unity ahead of the next election cycle.
Deputy Governor Josephine Piyo, who hails from Riyom, was represented at the event by her Chief of Staff, Alex Kundang. He commended the stakeholders for their overwhelming support and reiterated the government’s resolve to consolidate on its developmental efforts.
Also lending his voice, former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Simon Mwadkwon, noted that the PDP remains firmly rooted in Plateau North and predicted a stronger outing for the party in 2027. He cautioned against internal divisions and appealed to dissatisfied members to return and work for the party’s success.
“Disagreements are part of politics, but what matters is how we handle them. With the pace this government has set, no one should stand aside. Let us come together and move forward as one,” Mwadkwon said.
He further argued that the PDP has a proven track record at the national level and stands a solid chance of reclaiming power if it fields a credible candidate in the coming presidential race.
The meeting, which was the first of its scale in the area, offered a platform for open dialogue, party reconciliation, and strategic planning. A minute of silence was observed in memory of those killed in the frequent attacks across parts of Riyom.
Party elders, community leaders, youth groups, and women representatives were all in attendance, reaffirming their commitment to the PDP and pledging to deliver resounding support in future elections.
