Yoruba Council Worldwide (YCW), a leading organization representing Yoruba indigenous communities, has issued a passionate plea for reconciliation between two esteemed Yoruba monarchs, the Alaafin of Oyo and the Ooni of Ife, amid rising tensions.
In a statement released on Wednesday in Osogbo by YCW’s Publicity Secretary, Charles Adeyemi, the council underscored the revered status of both traditional rulers as “sacred guardians of Yoruba history, culture, and pride.”
The group emphasized the need for unity, stating, “This is a time for calm reflection and togetherness, not division, which serves no benefit to the Yoruba people.”
YCW called upon prominent Yoruba elders, statesmen, and cultural leaders to step in and mediate a resolution that respects the honor of both thrones.
The council urged Yoruba communities, particularly those active on social media, to avoid disparaging remarks about the monarchs.
“We must use our voices to promote peace and understanding, building bridges rather than walls in times of conflict,” Adeyemi stated.
Highlighting the Alaafin and Ooni as enduring symbols of Yoruba heritage, YCW noted, “Their unity is vital not only for preserving our culture but also for upholding the dignity of the Yoruba nation globally.”
The group expressed hope that the upcoming Yoruba Obas Conference would facilitate a peace agreement, fostering harmony across Yoruba land.
Led by its dedicated Global President, Aare Oladotun Hassan, YCW reaffirmed its commitment to promoting dialogue and cultural pride.
“Through respect, patience, and wisdom, we believe this matter can be resolved for the benefit of future generations,” the statement concluded.
