African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urgently requested that President Bola Tinubu declare a state of emergency in Katsina and Zamfara States to address the escalating violence that has claimed numerous lives, including worshippers killed during dawn prayers.
In a statement released on Sunday in Abuja, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, expressed alarm over the brutal attacks in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina, where gunmen targeted a mosque and villages, leaving a trail of death.
“The ADC calls for an immediate state of emergency in Katsina and Zamfara until the government can halt this bloodshed and restore order,” Abdullahi stated.
Abdullahi, further, urged a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s security framework, emphasizing the need to safeguard citizens’ lives and property.
He pointed to the Chief of Defence Staff’s recent call for self-defense training as a sign of deeper systemic issues, noting, “This is a clear signal that our internal defense mechanisms require urgent reevaluation.”
Criticizing the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdullahi accused both of prioritizing political power over citizens’ suffering.
He specifically condemned PDP governors for holding a political gathering in Zamfara shortly after the killings, calling it “a display of gross insensitivity.”
