Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Money Soludo has hailed Anambra-born Onyinyechi Basil for her stunning victory as Miss Universe Nigeria 2025, describing her as a beacon of courage and excellence.
Basil’s crowning moment came at the grand finale of the pageant held on Saturday night in Lagos, where she outshone Miss Lagos, Damilola Bolarinde, to claim the coveted title.

In a heartfelt statement issued on Monday in Awka, Mrs. Soludo praised Basil’s achievement as a testament to Anambra’s rich pool of talent. “Onyinyechi Basil embodies the spirit of Anambra’s ingenuity and determination,” she said.
“Our state is a hub of remarkable talents who continue to make us proud on national and global stages.”
Mrs. Soludo expressed her excitement for Basil’s journey ahead, noting, “Anambra’s talent export is truly exceptional, and each success story carries our unique mark of excellence. My dearest Onyinyechi, you have our unwavering support and prayers as you prepare to conquer the world in November. God bless our Queen!”
Basil’s victory saw her surpass strong contenders, with Miss Bayelsa, Fortune Kurobo, securing second runner-up, and Miss Ogun, Irene Ikediashi, taking third runner-up.
Succeeding Chidinma Adetshina, the 2024 Miss Universe Nigeria and reigning Miss Universe Africa and Oceania, Basil will now represent Nigeria at the 74th Miss Universe pageant in Bangkok, Thailand, later this year.
According ot the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Miss Basil’s win has sparked widespread celebration in Anambra, with Mrs. Soludo’s words echoing the state’s pride in its latest global ambassador.
