Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is currently convening with key People’s Democratic Party (PDP) figures at his official residence in Abuja to address critical issues concerning the party’s future.
Among the prominent attendees are PDP National Secretary Sam Anyanwu, former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, Minority Leader of the 10th Rivers House of Assembly Kingsley Chinda, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, and other assembly members.
Wike stated that the gathering aims to “discuss the state of our party and chart a path forward.”
The meeting follows his recent caution that the PDP risks collapse if it pursues reintegrating former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.
During a media chat on Monday, Wike criticized the PDP’s past decisions, arguing they led to its defeat in the 2023 elections.
“I warned from the start that allowing the presidential candidate and national chairman to come from the same region was a grave
mistake,” Wike said.
“The PDP ignored fairness, and that injustice cost us dearly at the polls.”
He accused the party of “hijacking” key positions, disregarding calls for regional balance, which he described as “a politically disastrous move.”
Wike emphasized the need for the PDP to learn from these errors to avoid further setbacks.
