Ebonyi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has launched an ambitious membership recruitment campaign across the region, aiming to fortify its base for the upcoming 2027 elections.
The party’s state chairperson, Dr. Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor, addressed the inaugural gathering of coalition stakeholders in Abakaliki on Saturday, urging widespread enrollment at the community level to establish a robust political foundation.
She emphasized that this initiative is essential for “creat[ing] a strong political platform ahead of 2027.” Adibe-Nwafor highlighted the coalition’s potential as a beacon for progress, declaring it a positive step toward “build[ing] a prosperous Ebonyi and Nigeria at large.” She passionately invited residents to join, saying, “Register with ADC and become part of the change we seek. Together, we can achieve greatness.” To deepen involvement, she encouraged supporters to “Participate in our activities, engage with our leaders, attend our meetings, and contribute to our discussions and spread the good word.”
Linus Okorie, who ran as the Labour Party’s senatorial candidate in the 2023 elections and previously served as the representative for Ohaozara, Onicha, and Ivo Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, praised the coalition as a vital push for improvement in both Ebonyi and the nation.
He called on all participants and allies to stay committed, describing the effort as “a good development in the nation’s democratic system.”
Okorie further remarked, “We gathered today to kick-start the movement for coalition in Ebonyi; we have our members on the ground. The coalition is a massive movement, and together, Nigeria will be great.”
Silas Onu, the former chairman of the Ebonyi chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), lamented the widespread hardship gripping the population, particularly the “hunger [that] had bitten the entire citizenry,” and positioned the ADC coalition as the catalyst for meaningful transformation nationwide.
Dr. Sam Egwu, a past governor of Ebonyi State, underscored the urgency for national renewal, with his message delivered by former Minister of State for Health, Fidelis Nwankwo.
Egwu’s representative framed the coalition as “a call to move Nigeria and Ebonyi forward come 2027.”
Coalition members hail from diverse groups, including the PDP, Labour Party (LP), and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), with the ADC’s prospects further strengthened by an influx of defectors from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and additional parties.
